Howard's Emporium
Howard’s Emporium holds a special place in Eganville’s history as the village’s first brick building. Owned and operated by Sinon Howard, the business stood as a sign of progress and permanence in a town still largely built of wood.
Howard began his career modestly, working as a clerk for Dan Lacey, who would later become his brother-in-law. From those early days behind the counter, he grew into a merchant in his own right, establishing the emporium that bore his name.
Over time, the business changed hands. It was first sold to the Feeley Brothers, and later to Isaac Fagin, who continued to operate the store. In 1951 the property was purchased again, this time becoming home to Len’s Clothing & Furniture, a familiar name for many years. Today, the site continues its retail legacy as Papa Ron’s Discount Store.
From its beginnings as a landmark brick emporium to its modern-day incarnation, the site has remained a constant thread in Eganville’s commercial life, reflecting both continuity and change across generations.
